A historic initiative opening new doors for mental health on the island
(San Juan, Puerto Rico) At a time when Puerto Rico faces one of the most profound mental health crises in its modern history, Pravan Foundation celebrates the successful completion of the first cohort of its Intuitive Healing training program, the first course ever offered in Puerto Rico dedicated to training and certifying mental health professionals in psychedelic-assisted therapies. The program took place in late November at Finca Victoria in Vieques.
Designed with an innovative and compassionate vision, the Intuitive Healing program created a unique educational space where 20 physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, and healthcare professionals received training in emerging modalities such as Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP), as well as foundational and ethical guidelines for the preparation and integration of psychedelic experiences.
The curriculum was developed in partnership with the internationally renowned Psychedelic Research and Training Institute (PRATI), incorporating experiential methodology, scientific rigor, and a deeply humanistic approach.
A vision born in Puerto Rico, for Puerto Rico
Pravan Foundation co-founder, Dr. Tania Rivera, described the program as “a brave step into a new era.”
“This training program is just the beginning, reminding us that Puerto Rico deserves access to modern, ethical, and deeply human treatments in order to heal. Scientific advances in the field of psychedelic-assisted therapies are moving quickly, with phase-three studies pointing toward imminent approval. We do not want our mental health providers to be left behind. Currently, we work with ketamine, the only legal tool available, but we want to be prepared for the moment when other treatments are approved. Our commitment is to build a community of professionals capable of accompanying processes of pain, trauma, and transformation with cultural sensitivity and compassion. This initiative is a gift of hope for our island, especially in this holiday season when we all seek connection and healing.” — Added Dr. Rivera.
Beyond its academic excellence, the Intuitive Healing program stands out for its strong commitment to accessibility. The foundation awarded over $30,000 in full and partial scholarships to Puerto Rican professionals to eliminate financial barriers and ensure that knowledge remains on the island.
With this first cohort, Pravan Foundation begins the development of the first network in Puerto Rico of certified professionals in psychedelic-assisted therapies, opening the door to new therapeutic options for people living with severe depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction, and terminal conditions.
In a country where the need for effective alternatives is urgent, this initiative represents an invitation to look forward with courage and hope.
